When the family's away.....

......I play and play (well, sew).  My husband and older daughter went to Colorado Springs this weekend w/the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra.  Younger daughter and I had some fun together, but, being the social butterfly she is, had much time with friends.  So me?  Quilting.....staying up much too late watching "The Tudors" (oh, that abominable, narcissistic Henry VIII), and sewing.  I started and finished a bath mat for our bathroom.  This came about after re-doing the bathroom over the last few months....painting the bathroom cabinets, putting down inexpensive yet nice-looking vinyl tiles, and finding just the right shower curtain at Cost Plus World Market this weekend.  But the rugs....oh, that was hard.  The ones I remotely liked around town were so darn expensive, and just weren't right.   So in the spirit of stash-busting, got out my fabric scraps and made one myself.  Pieced together the top, found a bathroom towel that had some bleach stains on it for the backing, and done:

Would you like to see more before and after?  Yes?  Well, ok:

Before & after cabinets & flooring:

Hmmm.....maybe a book is in the making:
"The Frugal Girls' Guide to Redecorating".....

And the quilting done this weekend?  A sneak peak picture coming soon.  This one will be raffled off this Saturday, Jan. 25, for "I Love my Local Quilt Shop Day."
